Rajkumar Hirani reveals why Ranbir Kapoor was the PERFECT FIT for Sanjay Dutt biopic

Rajkumar Hirani reveals why Ranbir Kapoor was the PERFECT FIT for Sanjay Dutt biopic

Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanjay Dutt biopic could easily be the most awaited film of 2018. Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has helmed the project as he had done two blockbuster hits with Dutt- Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai. Being one of the most awaited films, the teaser is set to hit the Internet and TV screens this afternoon. As the teaser reveal is closing in and the release is set for June, Rajkumar Hirani is opening about casting Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt. He recently revealed why the young actor was a perfect fit for the role and how it all went down.

Ranbir Kapoor has undergone a drastic physical transformation to fit the part and will be seen in 6 different looks tracing the life of Sanjay Dutt. Ranbir Kapoor surprised the audience with the striking resemblance to Dutt as pictures from sets hit the internet last year. The actor not just embodied the looks of Sanjay Dutt but also learned the nuances and accent of the actor. The team underwent tremendous research for the film including watching almost more than 200 hours of footage for the film.

Speaking about how Ranbir Kapoor agreed to do the project, Hirani revealed that he had approached the actor via text after the basic draft was ready. As Ranbir knows the whereabouts of Bollywood in and about, he had an idea Hirani was making this biopic. He replied to the filmmaker that he hopes the meeting is not for the Dutt biopic. As Ranbir already knew about the project, Hirani insisted on meeting and realized the actor actually was very much aware of Sanjay Dutt and his life… As they had spent time and were even gym buddies at one point, he had probably heard stories. When Ranbir read the script, he found it interesting as Hirani had given a new angle to the entire life of Sanjay Dutt. He loved it and agreed to do it.

Further, Hirani revealed why Ranbir was the perfect fit for the role. He said that as the young actor is in his 30s, it was perfect for him to play both 21-year-old Sanjay Dutt and the older version of him in his 50s. The first reason they chose him as he is an amazing actor. As the film begins from Dutt’s debut in Rocky when he was 21 and around the drug phase beginning, they needed someone who could transform easily into the character. The film, which will start from 21 to when he came out of prison at the age of 56, will showcase Ranbir in different avatars.

Last year, we all saw the leaked images from the sets of the Dutt biopic. Ranbir Kapoor’s striking resemblance to Sanjay Dutt left every stunned. Speaking about whether the two actors have any similarity, Hirani added that both come from film families and have a unique charm. Sanjay Dutt is the son of late actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis whereas Ranbir Kapoor comes from a clan of artistes and is the son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. Both became actors and have lived different lives in the spotlight. While they are both different in real lives, Hirani only thought of Ranbir for the role and he was a perfect fit for it. Talking about the brilliant transformation, the filmmaker revealed that the actor had to work very hard to get the perfect physically. As Sanjay is bigger and Ranbir is slightly taller, he worked hard to get the right physique. They did not want a caricaturish role. The actor would watch several hours of footage to get the right balance and this is why he resembles Sanjay Dutt so much.

Speaking of the actor, Hirani also revealed that during the filming, Sanjay Dutt only came twice to the sets of the film. He has only seen a few scenes and does not want to see the full film before it is complete. The filmmaker concluded saying it is very brave of Sanjay Dutt to open up about his life in such a way that not everyone can do it.

Written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film will also stars an ensemble cast in addition to Ranbir Kapoor which includes Anushka Sharma, Paresh Rawal, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Karishma Tanna, Manisha Koirala, Jim Sarbh, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

Produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox star studios Dutt Biopic is all set to be released on June 29, 2018.

Salman Khan takes off to Kashmir for Race 3, meets J&K Chief Minister for a chat

After resolving all the legal matters that have haunting the life of Salman Khan, the actor has now dived completely into Race 3. In fact, considering that the film is only a few months away from its release, only portions of the shoot schedule of the same are pending which the actor has decided to finish. Now doing the same, he has taken off to the beautiful locales of Kashmir for the last leg along with rest of the Race team. And the next destination is Sonmarg!

Earlier we had reported that the team of Race 3 decided to shift their location from South Africa to Leh-Ladakh due to Salman Khan’s legal hassle. The actor was banned from travelling abroad after being bailed out from the Jodhpur Central Jail after the verdict on the blackbuck poaching case. Now we hear that the actor and his team took off to Sonmarg, another popular Kashmiri location, for a song from the film.

In fact, en-route, Salman Khan even decided to pay a visit to the J&K [Jammu and Kashmir] Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at her residence. If reports are to be believed the meeting lasted for an hour after which the superstar left for shooting at Sonmarg. Considering that the recently shot Manmarziyaan featuring Taapsee Pannu and Abhishek Bachchan landed in a legal soup, Salman and his team, we hear, have taken all the required permissions. Recent reports suggest that the Race 3 team has all the necessary approvals from the Sonmarg Tourism and Wildlife Department.

Incidentally, Salman Khan is visiting this beautiful state after shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan, three years ago. The film was extensively shot in Kashmir and the actor has spent some amazing moments in places like Pahalgam. Now that he has taken off to Sonmarg, it is being said that the chef and the team who had served the superstar during Bajrangi Bhaijaan will also be accompanying him during this shoot. It seems that Salman Khan was quite impressed with the warm hospitality of the chef and the staff whom he met during the Pahalgam shoot. Now, it has been learnt that he summoned the team to accompany his personal chef during his Sonmarg shoot.

Saroj Khan DEFENDS casting couch and compares it to RAPE

Saroj Khan DEFENDS casting couch and compares it to RAPE

Casting Couch is a menace in Bollywood that many actresses have voiced their displeasure towards. Recently, veteran choreographer Saroj Khan spoke up against the existence of the same. However, her statement seems to have attracted attention since she was seen defending the same during a press meet. At the same time, she compared it to rape.

After the Kathua and Unnao case, Indian citizens have started a movement against rape and the punishment for it is an ongoing subject of debate. When the much respected Saroj Khan was questioned about crimes against women in Bollywood, she was also questioned about the much talked about casting couch. While many actresses have voiced out against it, Saroj Khan stated that it depends on the girl who agrees to do it and how despite it being a sexual favour, it at least provides bread and butter to many.

One of the well-known media publications posted her quote on social media. Her statement read, “Yeh chala aa raha hai Baba azam ke zamaane se. Har ladki ke upar koi na koi haath saaf karne ki koshish karta hai. Govt ke log bhi karte hain. Tum film industry ke peeche kyun pade ho? Woh kam se kam roti toh deti hai. Rape karke chhod toh nahi deti.” [It has been happening since ages now. Everyone tries to take advantage of every girl and it happens even within the government (bodies). Why are you all behind the film industry? At least, that (casting couch) gives you bread and butter. Not like rape, where a woman is left to fend and fight for herself]

Furthermore, she also went on to add, “Yeh ladki ke upar hai ki tum kya karna chahti ho. Tum uske haath mein nahi aana chahti ho toh nahi aaogi. Tumhare paas art hai toh tum kyun bechoge apne aap ko? Film industry ko kuch mat kehna, woh humaara mai-baap hai” [It’s upon the girl and what she wants to do. If you are not ready for it (casting couch), you won’t do it. If you have the art and talent, then why would you sell yourself? Don’t say anything to the film industry; it is our bread and butter]

Yeh ladki ke upar hai ki tum kya karna chahti ho. Tum uske haath mein nahi aana chahti ho toh nahi aaogi. Tumhare paas art hai toh tum kyun bechoge apne aap ko? Film industry ko kuch mat kehna, woh humaara mai-baap hai: Saroj Khan on Casting Couch. pic.twitter.com/kYpPAPWMtB

Pooja Bhatt dismissed as an ALCOHOLIC after taking on Amitabh Bachchan for staying mum on Kathua rape

Pooja Bhatt dismissed as an ALCOHOLIC after taking on Amitabh Bachchan for staying mum on Kathua rape

Bollywood is a tricky place and being a celebrity here is like holding a double edged sword. While whole industry bled after the recent Kathua rape case, megastar Amitabh Bachchan chose to stay mum about it. At a song launch of his recent movie 102 Not Out, he was asked to comment and he being the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao ambassador said that he does not wish to talk about this shameful phenomenon. His exact words were, “Mujhe uss vishay par charcha karne mein ghinn aati hai. So uss vishay ko uchhalo mat (I feel disgusted even talking about it. So, don’t rake up this issue). It’s terrible to even talk about it.”

Many people were fazed by this responsible because it was rather ironical that Mr Bachchan chose to keep silent on this pertinent issue. Maverick actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt took to Twitter to point out the exact thing and wrote, “I can’t help being reminded of a film called #Pink. Can our images on screen please be reflected in reality?” While this seemed like a legitimate concern, trolls brought out her alcoholism and other irrelevant issues in the conversation. One person wrote, “A known alcoholic trying to gain publicity by using the name of a legend.” Pooja, who quit drinking about 10 months ago replied, “A ‘recovering’ alcoholic and proud of it. In a country where people don’t even acknowledge they have a drinking problem, let alone discuss it, I am grateful to stand away from the crowd that considers holding your frailties to light shameful. #485dayssober.”

Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu film Manmarziyaan faces legal hassle for shooting in ecological zone of Kashmir

Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu film Manmarziyaan faces legal hassle for shooting in ecological zone of Kashmir

Just a few days ago, we saw Taapsee Pannu enjoying the serene atmosphere of Sonmarg amidst other chaotic cities of Kashmir. However, it seems that all the capturing of the Kashmir beauty in this ecological zone of the state was done illegally. Or so say the recently reported claims of Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Board. The latter has sent a legal notice to the makers of Manmarziyaan for shooting in an ecological zone.

According to the reported notice, as per the Jammu and Kashmir High Court orders, vehicles are banned in this ecological zone of Sonmarg by the Sonmarg Development Authority. So, recent reports further have quoted sources stating that the board has given the team of Manmarziyaan a week to revert the notice.

While the makers have maintained that they have indeed been granted all the necessary permissions, the notice has questioned its process. The reports state that the department has asked the makers to produce a detailed response on how they procured these permissions in such an ecological sensitive zone.

According to a PIL filed by local environmentalist Faiz Bakshi, it states that certain rules were overlooked for the shoot which had Abhishek Bachchan, son of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. For the uninitiated, the actor had joined the team for a short schedule there on April 18 and shot in a gated property for his portion. The PIL alleged that a higher authority was involved in letting them in doing so since it would have apparently been impossible for the unit to have done it all themselves.

Furthermore, Bakshi also went on to assert that for shooting in this ecological zone, one requires as many as five permissions. The reports quoted him saying that there is a lapse in the part of the local administration. In fact, to shoot in this zone, one is expected to seek permissions from the Distrcit Magistrate, Department of Tourism, Sonmarg Development Authority, Department of Wildlife Protection in Kashmir and the police.

As for the makers, the Colour Yellow Production of Aanand L. Rai has responded to these accusations stating that they have all the necessary permissions. They have reportedly maintained they indeed did seek the permission of the Department of Tourism and Department of Wildlife Protection in Kashmir. They also assured that they have abided by all the terms and conditions and rules that were put forth before allowing them to shoot in these picturesque locations.

Kedarnath: Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput to beat the heat by shooting for underwater sequences

Kedarnath: Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput to beat the heat by shooting for underwater sequences

While it was touted to be the debut film of Sara Ali Khan, Kedarnath has been caught in a quandary for quite some time now. Featuring Sushant Singh Rajput as the leading man, the film was said to have created conflicts between director Abhishek Kapoor and producer Prernaa Arora. But now that all of it has been solved with Ronnie Screwvala as the new and solo producer on board, the film is all set to start afresh for its latest schedule.

Interestingly, the next schedule of Kedarnath is set in Mumbai. Owing to the rising temperatures in the city, now, the makers have even found a way to beat the heat. How? Well, they will be shooting for underwater sequences. Fans, who have been following up about the film, would be aware that Kedarnath is a love story set against the backdrop of Uttarakhand floods. So, the film is expected to feature some intense underwater sequences.

Kedarnath has had an extensive schedule that was shot in Uttarakhand. After that, the same will be joined with the underwater sequences that will be shot at a specially constructed facility in Khopoli, located in the outskirts of Mumbai. The said scenes will feature both the lead actors. In fact, if reports are to be believed, the film will also have a scene where Sushant Singh Rajput saves the drowning Sara Ali Khan during the flood sequence.

Considering the setbacks the film has been facing, we hear Abhishek Kapoor now wants to take the film ahead with a clean slate. Its new schedule has recently kick started and the film is slated for a release on December 21. Incidentally, the other film of Sara Ali Khan featuring her opposite Ranveer Singh, Simmba, is expected to release in a week after Kedarnath, on December 28 this year.

Has Varun Dhawan actually received Rs. 35 cr for his dance film with T-Series?

Has Varun Dhawan actually received Rs. 35 cr for his dance film with T-Series?

Bhushan Kumar of T-Series is all set to produce India’s most expensive dance film featuring two of Bollywood’s best dancers Varun Dhawan and Katrina Kaif. A report recently claimed Varun is being paid Rs. 35 crores for doing the film. However sources close to the financial dynamics of the project pooh-pooh the idea as overblown speculation. “This is someone’s idea of celebrating Varun Dhawan’s superstardom without consulting him. No doubt he’s a huge star. But not huge enough to be paid the money you’ve heard (Rs. 35 crores).”

When coaxed to reveal the actual remuneration the source says, “It’s substantially less than Rs 35. Closer to Rs. 15-20 crores.”

The report also claims that Katrina Kaif has been paid comparatively less. The source doesn’t deny the veracity of the leading lady’s fee amount. “Katrina has of course been given a lot less than Varun. It’s always that way (when it comes to the disparity in the fee between the male and female actor). Sadly, heroines no matter how big they are, do not draw the audience in. People flocked to Padmaavat for Sanjay Bhansali, not Deepika Padukone. The dance film will have Varun and Katrina in equal roles. But it’s Varun who will determine the film’s box office fate. Sad but true.”

2002 hit-and-run case: Salman Khan gets bailable warrant against him cancelled

2002 hit-and-run case: Salman Khan gets bailable warrant against him cancelled

Bollywood star Salman Khan, who is mired in several controversies, was acquitted in 2015 in the hit-and-run case by the Bombay High Court. The court had quashed the five-year prison sentence which was announced by a lower court. From what it has been learned, on April 21, 2018, Salman Khan appeared before the sessions court Judge MG Deshpande to get the bailable warrant issued against him, cancelled. Appearing before the court in Mumbai for few minutes, Salman was surrounded by the staff and the lawyers.

Superstar Salman Khan was convicted in the hit-and-run case by the Mumbai Sessions Court in 2015. In this incident, one person died while four others who were sleeping on the footpath were injured. After the acquittal, Maharashtra government had appealed against it. So, he had to furnish surety of Rs 25, 000 and his former manager Reshma Shetty stood as surety. But, the two parted ways last year. Post this, Salman Khan approached Supreme Court on February 2018 to discharge his former surety Reshma and replace her with his bodyguard Shera aka Gurmeet Singh Jolly. On February 23, the Supreme Court allowed this.

After this, all the details of the Shera aka the new surety was provided to the court in April 2018. But, around the same time, Jodhpur court announced its verdict on Blackbuck Poaching Case after which Salman was sent to jail for 2 days before finally getting the bail. The court had announced five year prison sentence to the actor but he was bailed after two days. As Salman could not appear before Mumbai Sessions Court and did not find his new surety in place, a bailable warrant was issued against him. Salman’s advocate Niranjan Mundargi appeared before the court to explain the whole situation after which the actor was given time till April 25.

In December 2015, the Bombay High Court did not find substantial evidence against Salman Khan and acquitted him of all criminal charges seven months after the sessions court held him guilty.
