REVEALED: Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha to play lawyers in court room drama on rape

REVEALED: Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha to play lawyers in court room drama on rape

Akshaye Khanna faced several ups and downs in his life in the past few years. He lost his father and veteran actor Vinod Khanna last year to cancer. While he is still recovering from the personal loss, the actor is on his way to revive his Bollywood career. The actor, after films like Dishoom and Ittefaq, is now all set for another intriguing role. He will be seen as a lawyer in Section 375: Marzi Ya Jabardasti along with Richa Chadha

The film in question will be directed by Rahasya fame Manish Gupta. The film revolves around the debate of how women often misuse rape laws. These stringent laws are created by the government for the protection of female gender. But there are many who use its loopholes for their own personal benefit. The film Section 375: Marzi Ya Jabardasti explores these two aspects of the same coins. It is inspired by 10 real life cases.

Speaking on getting Akshaye Khanna on board, Manish revealed that he wasn’t looking for a quintessential hero. His requirements were that of an intelligent guy who looks approximately 40 years old. For him, Akshaye was the perfect match for the role of a suave SoBo [South Mumbai] lawyer who is fluent in English. On the other hand, Richa Chadha will be seen as a public prosecutor.

Interestingly, this will be the first time where Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha will be sharing screen space. Considering that both these actors are considered to be powerhouse performers, it will be an interesting watch to see them battle it out in the court room.

On the other hand, Manish Gupta revealed that he has undergone extensive research for the film. From meeting alleged rape accused to survivors, he even explained the process of a special court. It has a female judge who is generally appointed only to hear rape cases. Talking about the same Manish says, “Rape laws are being misused by men and women alike leaving the judiciary and police confused as to which rape case is genuine and which is fake.” Further adding about the research he underwent the filmmaker adds, “There are special courts with female judges who only hear rape cases. I have also met survivors, their families, alleged rapists and lawyers representing both sides” he says. “It’s very disturbing not only for the accused and the survivors but also their families.”

Furthermore, talking about the film, it brings forth the much discussed debate on rape and consensual sex. Manish also asserted that the suspense of whether it was rape or consensual will keep the audience gripped till the end. He also stated that both the lawyers will have ample evidence to back up their case.

Section 375: Marzi Ya Jabardasti is said to be produced by Abhishek Pathak, son of producer Kumar Mangat. Pathak revealed that he was super impressed with the script and was immediately drawn to the idea. Hence he decided to back the project. “I have seen Manish’s Rahasya and we thought it was a great film. We know what he will be able to achieve with this script. When he came to us, we were drawn by the idea of Section 375 and decided to back the project.” Further details on the film aren’t available as of now. The film is expected to go on floor in March – April this year.

Akshay Kumar and KriArj get together for another project

For those who are wondering what Akshay Kumar is doing next, here’s news. After completing his work in Reema Kagti’s Gold, Akshay moves to a project that will be co-produced by Prernaa Arora and Arjun N Kapoor’s Kriarj Entertainment and Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Hope.

Confirming this alliance Prernaa Arora of KriArj says, “Yes, KriArj is lucky enough to be doing our fourth film with Akshay Kumar. After Rustom, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha and Pad Man my partner Arjun N Kapoor and I have established a fabulous rapport with Akshay. We are willing to go along with any project that Akshay Sir wants. Akshay Sir has discussed a particular idea with them. And we are all for it.”

While it is not clear at this moment what the project will be like, we can comfortably divulge that the film won’t be a bio-pic. Says a source, “It will be more in the fun zone, though it would have an underbelly of social relevance. At this stage of his career, Akshay cannot do time pass films. He has given the nod to his next project which he will co-produce with Kriarj Entertainment. At the moment that’s the only film Akshay Kumar has said yes to.”

Adds Prernaa, “Whatever KriArj is today is because of Akshay Sir. I owe him my entire career. Working with him I’ve learnt so much about life and cinema. I never ask him about the subject of the film he wants to make with us. We’ll blindly produce any film that he wants us to be part of. That’s the kind of trust and respect we have for him.”

REVEALED: Nargis Fakhri gears up for a horror film next

REVEALED: Nargis Fakhri gears up for a horror film next

The last time we saw Nargis Fakhri in action in a Bollywood film was about two years ago. The actress featured in the much forgettable Banjo opposite Riteish Deshmukh. Now she is all set for yet another film in Bollywood, Torbaaz. However, besides this Sanjay Dutt starrer, Nargis has signed her next Bollywood outing which is a horror film. And here’s what it is all about!

From what we hear, Nargis Fakhri has been roped in for Bhushan Patel’s directorial Amaavas. Bhushan, who last directed scream queen Bipasha Basu in Alone, has started shooting his next in London. If recent reports are to be believed, Amaavas has already gone on floor in the England capital. From what we hear, Patel is also impressed with his new heroine Nargis.

Speaking on the same, Bhushan expressed his happiness when Nargis Fakhri gave a nod to his film immediately. Nargis was reportedly very impressed with the script of the film. He too was glad with the fact that the actress decided to attempt this genre, even though it is yet to gain prominence in Bollywood. In fact, the Ragini MMS 2 director revealed that Fakhri was his first choice. In fact, the actress too has kicked off the film’s schedule a day ago.

Bhushan Patel also believes that Amaavas will probably redefine the experience of watching a horror film. He is appreciative of actresses like Anushka Sharma who are taking risks with this genre.

On the other hand, Nargis Fakhri is also busy with her other commitments. The actress is also exploring her musician side. For the same, she has been collaborating with international singers for several singles. The actress had taken off to US post wrapping up her last film Banjo. This had further fueled up rumours of her quitting Bollywood. But with Torbaaz and Amaavas, the actress seems to have shunned these gossip reports.

Also, Nargis Fakhri will be seen opposite Rajkummar Rao in an international film titled 5 Weddings. While Fakhri plays the role of an American journalist, Rao essays the role of a cop. It is directed by Namrata Singh Gujral.

“When Jiah Khan’s mother knows Sooraj is innocent why is she doing this?” – Zarina Wahab

“When Jiah Khan’s mother knows Sooraj is innocent why is she doing this?” – Zarina Wahab

Actor Sooraj Pancholi’s trial in the Jiah Khan case has begun in Mumbai. And Sooraj’s mother veteran actress Zarina Wahab is one relieved woman. “We wanted this trial to start. Jab tak trial nahin hoga yeh kaise saabit hoga ke mera beta begunaah hain (until a trial how would my son’s innocence be proved?). This (Jiah Khan’s mother’s accusations against Sooraj Pancholi) has been going on for years now. Our family is fed up. It seems there was never a time when we were a happy family. Mere bete ne toh muskurana chhod diya hai (my son has forgotten to smile),” says Zarina, trying hard to hide her grief.

“Yes, we are glad the trial has started. Sooraj is attending the trial as per law. But where was Jiah’s mother Rabiya? She was not in the court when the trial began. The person who has put my son in the dock was missing in the trial. We find that a little strange. But then it’s none of our business. The law knows its mind,” says Zarina adding that her son has suffered in abundance.

“We know what happened. We know Sooraj is innocent. Jiah’s mother knows it too. But she insists on dragging this matter on and on. Why is she doing this? Jiah’s soul can never rest until her mother stops chasing imaginary crimes in the hope of getting justice for her daughter’s loss. I can’t stop her. As a mother I understand her grief and sympathize with her. After all this is over I will forgive her. But God won’t forgive her,” says Zarina.

Is Zarinaji convinced that the case will wrap up sooner rather than later? “It is interesting. But I play a lawyer in a new film. And I found myself mouthing Sunny Deol’s famous line from Ghayal. ‘Tarikh pe tarikh’. For the first time I understand what it means to have a long court case happening in your life. It ruins the family’s peace of mind and makes a dent in their finances. Fortunately for us, we have the resources to hire the lawyers to prove my son’s innocence. What happens to those innocent people who can’t afford legal help?”

Zarina Wahab says her son is coping fine. “Sooraj is like me. He keeps his grief all bottled up. But we do know that he’s coping and hoping that it will all be over soon. Only then can he focus on his career.”

On a brighter note, Zarina saw her best friend’s mother’s film twice. “Yes, I have seen Padmaavat twice. As you know I live in the same building as Sanjay Bhansali and his mother is my closest friend. They invite me for all his films. Padmaavat proves there is no filmmaker like Sanjay Bhansali. And to hound him the way he was hounded by fringe groups…We Pancholis know what it feels like to be hounded for crimes never committed.”

Sushant Singh Rajput at loggerheads with his Kedarnath director Abhishek Kapoor

Sushant Singh Rajput at loggerheads with his Kedarnath director Abhishek Kapoor

It was with great difficulty that Sushant Singh Raput had patched up with his Kai Po Che director Abhishek Kapoor. But now it seems things are again pretty rough between the two. To go back a bit, it was Abhishek Kapoor who had launched Sushant’s film career in Kai Po Che. They were friends until Abhishek Kapoor offered Sushant another film Fitoor. Sushant had to “regrettably” turn it down as he was busy prepping for Shekhar Kapur’s Paani. It is another matter that Paani never happened and Fitoor which Abhishek Kapoor directed with Aditya Roy Kapoor in the lead, flopped miserably.

Abhishek Kapoor remained incensed with Sushant for “daring” to say no to his mentor… Until Sushant agreed to do Kapoor’s Kedarnath opposite Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara. However the bonhomie, say sources, was short-lived. Reports of constant conflict between the director and his leading man filtered out of the Kedarnath location.

Says a source close to the project, “Sushant Singh Raput didn’t agree with the way Gattu (Abhishek Kapoor) interpreted Sushant Singh Rajput’s character. They also didn’t agree on several issues regarding the script. There were constant tussles and heated arguments between the two. Sushant’s dates were also not used properly by Gattu. A lot of Sushant’s time was wasted. Now Sushant has left for Chambal in a huff to shoot for Abhishiek Chaubey’s Son Chiriya.”

Adding to Sushant’s woes is the fact that Kedarnath now stands stalled due to a dispute between the director and his producers. Sushant Singh Raput is no stranger to stalled projects. While his outer space film Chanda Mama Door Ke stands suspended at the moment, Sushant’s other ready-for-release film Drive is apparently being re-shot.

With much fanfare, Siddharth Anand announced Rambo two years ago. The director after several discussions roped in Tiger Shroff to play the lead. The poster that was released last year was welcomed with much appreciation. However, there wasn’t much progress on the film front. But now we hear that the Hindi version, Rambo, will kick off in 2019.

Recent reports claim that Rambo was to go on floor in December, 2017. However, owing to the hectic schedules of Tiger Shroff and Siddharth Anand’s work commitments, it couldn’t be possible. But now, Siddharth has finally confirmed that the film will kick off by November 2019. Yes, fans will have to wait for almost two years before they will get to see Tiger don the Rambo avatar.

Based on the David Morrell novel ‘First Blood’, the original Rambo starred Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a troubled Vietnam War veteran. Rambo’s character has worked as former U.S. Army Special Forces soldier. Hence, he is skilled in many aspects of survival, weaponry, hand-to-hand combat and guerrilla warfare.

Further talking about the Hindi remake, Anand also revealed that it will be shot extensively in Europe and Himalayas. Earlier, when he had announced the film, the filmmaker had maintained that Rambo will be a trilogy. There were also speculations that Hrithik Roshan might be playing the lead role. However, the deal didn’t materialize and later, Tiger was brought on board.

Interestingly, before kick starting Rambo, Siddharth Anand is already working with Tiger Shroff in YRF’s untitled next. The film also stars Hrithik Roshan in the lead and Vaani Kapoor as the leading lady. Before Rambo, Anand and Tiger will be wrapping up the said film.
